Collaborative art for community healing
Honoring animals—our love and grief
I started this project at the 8th Annual Death Faire in 2023 (a community event created to re-imagine our relationships with death and life through learning, ceremony, and celebration).
I am continually struck by how often the loss of an animal is not given the ceremony, patience, and community recognition and care that it deserves. This piece honors animals that we have loved and grieved and helps normalize the depth of our unique connections and bonds. I am so grateful to everyone who has contributed so far. Your sacred silence, stories, photos, tears, and laughs are what this creation is all about. Woodburning the names and pictures that people sketch in pencil is a truly intimate and powerful experience. Wherever I go, this piece travels with me and there is always someone who finds meaning in it. This piece will continue until it feels complete.
Hidden Hunger
This project is just beginning! Food insecurity tends to come with a lot of isolation and shame. This piece is all about sharing and honoring the impact of our experiences with hunger. No matter our circumstances, the goal is to help remind us all that food insecurity is widespread, often hidden, and is nothing to be ashamed of.
